Former FIFA president and vice-president Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, who are on trial for corruption, will face light sentences if convicted.

Former FIFA president and vice-president Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, who have been on trial in Switzerland for some time for corruption during their tenure at FIFA, are facing light sentences if convicted, Sport 3 reports. Will face.

Swiss prosecutors have asked the court to sentence Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini to 20 months in prison on suspicion of financial misconduct.

Blatter and Platini were among the most powerful men in football during their tenure at FIFA. Blatter has been a FIFA employee since 1975 and has been its director since 1998. Platini, a former French football star, was also elected president of UEFA in 2007.

The sentence requested by prosecutors has been met with criticism because under Swiss law, prosecutors in the country could ask the court for a five-year sentence for Blatter and Platini. But they preferred to settle for a 20-month suspended sentence.

According to the prosecutors’ request, Blatter and Platini will most likely never go to prison because their sentences will be suspended even if convicted. A court ruling in the case is expected on July 8.

Both Blatter and Platini have denied the allegations. In 2011, when allegations of corruption surfaced, Blatter took over the presidency of FIFA, with Platini as UEFA president and vice-president, and all indications were that Platini would soon replace Blatter as FIFA president.
